Weapons Located Inside Stolen Car After Pursuit Leads to Crash in Pembroke TWP

At approximately 1:18 am this morning, deputies observed a Mercedes Benz in the Pembroke Township area that was reported stolen out of Campton Hills, IL.  Upon attempting to stop the vehicle, the car fled from deputies and eventually crashed.  The occupants fled on foot and were not apprehended.  Upon inventorying the vehicle, deputies located a pistol and a small caliber rifle.

“The stolen car where the occupants are armed and fleeing from authorities’ scenario is becoming all too common,” said Sheriff Mike Downey.  “It’s unfortunate that so many of the criminal elements have become as brazen that we encounter so many stolen cars lately.  And, on top of that, virtually all of them seem to be in possession of firearms and have no fear or regard for authorities.  This type of conduct puts every motorist and citizen in the community at risk.”

The Tri-County Auto Theft Task Force continues to investigate.  Anyone with any information regarding the suspect(s) is encouraged to contact Special Agent Samples at (815) 802-7164.  You can also remain anonymous by calling CrimeStoppers at (815) 93-CRIME.  Any information that leads to the identification, apprehension and/or conviction of those responsible may lead to a monetary reward.
