The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division consists of 117 full-time corrections officers, two administrative assistants, 2 full-time physician assistants, 8 full-time registered nurses, 2 part-time registered nurses, 1 dentist and one dental hygienist. The Corrections Division is mainly responsible for the jail facility and inmate processing.
Construction for our new facility has been completed, and was officially opened on February 11, 2005. The new facility, the Jerome Combs Detention Center, is designed to hold 312 inmates. In 2007, Phase 2 of JCDC was officially opened with the capability of holding 144 additional detainees. Both phases were designed to be direct supervision of detainees. Our old jail facility, the Kankakee County Detention Center, was designed for 106 inmates, but in 1994 was double-bunked which increased the capacity to 220. In 2003 a work release dorm was completed and the capacity increased again to 244. The average daily census as of February 2013 for both the old and new jail was 696 inmates.
