Arrest Made in September Homicide at Fairview Motel

March 8, 2019 – Kankakee, IL – An additional bond has been set at $750,000 for 33 year‐old, Emanuel D Burns (Pembroke Township), in the murder of Jamie L Jones (35, Kankakee) last September. Burns, who has been incarcerated at the Jerome Combs Detention Center since the day of the Homicide, was previously arrested for Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery (Discharge of a Firearm) and several counts of Home Invasion by the Kankakee Police
Department from an incident that occurred hours after the homicide (his bond remains at $1,000,000 on those charges).

Deputies responded to the Fairview Motel on the morning of September 12, 2018 after the motel manager located Jones unresponsive in a motel room. Jones, who was pronounced deceased at the scene, suffered from multiple gunshot wounds.

“I credit the efforts of all investigators, from both the Sheriff’s Office and the Kankakee Police Department, who worked tirelessly together on both cases to ensure Burns would receive the justice he deserves,” said Sheriff Mike Downey. “I thank the State’s Attorney’s Office for securing the bill of indictment and moving forward with the case.”

Burns, who was arraigned in court yesterday on the murder charges, is scheduled to be in front of the Honorable Judge Elliot on April 4th.
