Deputies Locate Loaded Gun On Subject With Multiple Weapon-Related Incidents In Recent Months
Yesterday evening, Kankakee County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 18 year-old Jose Rojas, of Kankakee, after officers located a loaded firearm with an extended magazine in his waistband. Deputies observed the firearm on Rojas’ person as they approached a vehicle on a traffic stop in which Rojas was sitting in the front passenger seat.
“Although the firearm was recovered and Rojas was taken into custody without incident, I think it’s important for the community to understand these types of dangerous encounters that our local police officers are forced to deal with are becoming more and more common,” said Sheriff Mike Downey. “We have now encountered this particular individual three times since his eighteenth birthday in mid-December and each interaction related to firearms either being used or located on or about his person.”
“Instead of our Governor and some state legislators who continue to pass laws that benefit criminals, they should be passing laws that keep those who illegally possess and use firearms in prison.”
“I continue to applaud and thank our local police officers for their bravery and courage to seek out and arrest/remove these types of dangerous individuals.”
Rojas was transported to the Jerome Combs Detention Center where he awaits his initial arraignment before a judge for the Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
