Man sentenced to life in prison for sex offenses in Kankakee County

JUNE 27, 2014- KANKAKEE, IL– A repeat child sex offender from South Carolina was sentenced to life in prison, plus 30 years, for 4 counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and 1 count of Possession of Child Pornography.  Sixty-Seven year-old, Jerry Lee Hendricks (12/11/1946), of Patrick, SC, was sentenced yesterday (6/26/2014) in U.S. District Court in Springfield, IL.

Hendricks was convicted in July of 2013 after a three-day jury trial in Urbana, IL.  Hendricks coerced and photographed a child engaged in sexually explicit conduct in Kankakee County in May of 2011.  Hendricks was a previously convicted sex offender from SC at the time of the offense.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elly Peirson.  U.S. District Judge Sue Myerscough presided at the sentencing hearing.  The charges were investigated by Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office Investigators.

Kankakee County Sheriff Tim Bukowski applauds investigators, including those from the Project Safe Childhood (www.projectsafechildhood.gov), for their dedication to this particular case.

“Repeat offenders, such as Jerry Lee Hendricks, are some of the most dangerous individuals living amongst us,” stated Bukowski, “the meticulous and considerable amounts of evidence that investigators were able to provide to a jury resulted in his confinement in a penitentiary for the remainder of his life, ultimately preventing any other children from ever being victimized by Hendricks.”
