Stolen Firearms and Ammunition Among Items Located After Search Warrant in Grant Park

Saturday morning (8/7/2021), members of the Kankakee Area Emergency Response Team, along with sheriff’s deputies, officers from the Grant Park Police Department and investigators from the IL State Police conducted a search warrant in the 300 block of North Main Street in Grant Park.  Authorities were led to the address after an investigation into stolen firearms, a ballistic vest, numerous amounts of ammunition, as well as other miscellaneous stolen items. 

Upon executing the warrant, authorities took 18 year-old Stefan A Sampson, of Grant Park, into custody and located the stolen property.

The cooperation and assistance from all of the participating agencies led to the apprehension of Sampson. 

“The interagency collaboration assisted us in bringing an extremely dangerous and tense situation to a peaceful resolution in such a short time frame,” said Sheriff Mike Downey.  “In addition to the officers involved, I want to thank the Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office for their swift assistance in the matter.”

Sampson is currently incarcerated at the Jerome Combs Detention Center where he his bond was set at $150,000 for the following charges: Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm/Occupied Building; Unlawful Use of a Weapon; Possession of a Stolen Firearm; and, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm/Endangers.
