Usmani Taken Into Custody in Chicago

January 19, 2019 – Kankakee, IL – The
search for a missing inmate that was inadvertently released from the Jerome
Combs Detention Center yesterday evening has ended.  At approximately 4:45
pm, Anees Ahmed Usmani (41, from Chicago) was taken into custody without
incident by Deputy U.S. Marshals and FBI Agents in the Lincolnwood
neighborhood.  Usmani, who was being held in Kankakee on federal
drug-related offenses on behalf of the U.S. Marshals Service, was released
inadvertently approximately 24 hours ago. 

“We are
continuing to investigate the incident to determine what mistakes were made and
why,” said Kankakee County Sheriff Mike Downey.  “We are extremely
appreciative to all of the local police agencies, the U.S. Marshals Service,
the FBI, the US Attorney’s Office, as well as community-at-large, for assisting
us in the search for Usmani.”
