Cocaine, Methamphetamines and Fentanyl Located On Arrestee During Booking Process
On Tuesday morning, April 25, 2023, the Illinois State Police arrested 20-year-old, Jose Rojas of Kankakee. Rojas was initially charged with, Felon in Possess/Use of a Weapon/Firearm (2 Counts), Armed Violence, the Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, as well as an outstanding warrant for the IL Dept. of Corrections.
During the booking process, Kankakee County Corrections Officers located a quantity of narcotics concealed on Rojas, thanks to the use of a newly purchased inmate body scanner.
“It’s extremely unfortunate that someone, such as Rojas, can deliberately conceal narcotics in an effort to bring them into a detention center without any fear of additional prosecution,” said Sheriff Mike Downey. “The legislature has put each one of our staff members, as well as those incarcerated, in danger by allowing drug users the opportunity to try sneaking them into our jail without repercussion. I applaud our Corrections staff on a job well done by locating them and preventing the dangerous drugs, which consisted of Cocaine, Methamphetamines and Fentanyl, into our general population or in contact with our staff members.”
Rojas remains incarcerated at the Jerome Combs Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.
