December 11, 2016 – Kankakee, IL – Within the last hour, it has been brought to the attention of the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office that someone (unknown at this time) has created a fictitious Facebook account and titled it, Kankakee County Sheriff”s Office (https://www.facebook.com/Kankakee-County-Sheriffs-Office-21…).

“This page is not being administered by anyone representing the Sheriff’s Office and it is important that people understand that our office is in not affiliated with anything that they post,” said Sheriff Mike Downey. “Our investigators are aware of the page and have begun an investigation into the situation. It is important that whoever is responsible for the page is aware that claiming to be a police officer is a felony in the state of Illinois and we intend on working with the State’s Attorney’s Office to prosecute whomever is responsible to the fullest extent of the law.”
