Man Threatening Police with Gun Arrested in Cabery
July 26, 2016- KANKAKEE, IL – At approximately 1:23 am, this morning, Kankakee County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Ford and Livingston County Deputies, were dispatched and responded to Main Street in Cabery in regards to a person with a gun. Information received indicated that the subject allegedly pointed the gun at an individual and made threatening statements towards law enforcement and harming the police and requested that someone call the police so he could, “shoot them all and make history.”
After an extensive search from a multi-agency response, Kankakee County Sheriff’s Deputies took 43-year-old, Cabery resident, Jess J Hummell into custody on Aggravated Assault charges. Hummell is currently confined at the Jerome Combs Detention Center awaiting arraignment.
“Given the recent trend of offenders ambushing and killing the police solely based on their profession, it’s extremely bothersome that an individual, such as Hummell, would make similar threats without having been provoked or even encountering an officer,” said Sheriff Mike Downey. “This type of incident is a perfect example of how the environment, for which our law enforcement officers respond, is growing more and more unstable and dangerous. I commend our officers for their professional response and thank Livingston and Ford Counties, as well as the Cabery Fire Department, for their assistance.”
