Marked Sheriff’s Squad Car Burglarized – Firearm/Ammo Among Items
KANKAKEE, IL – A marked Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office squad car was burglarized overnight last night (January 6, 2016) after the burglar(s) forced entry to a window. Upon processing the scene, investigators determined that a department-owned firearm/ammunition were among the stolen items. It should be noted that the firearm/ammunition were secured in a locked safe (which was compromised), which was located in the locked vehicle, within the city limits of Kankakee, near the Small Memorial Park. Additionally, a bullet-proof vest (olive green in color, which may have a Velcro rocker that displays the word SHERIFF on it) was also taken. Information regarding the burglary has been shared with law-enforcement agencies statewide, as well as the ATF (Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms) and other federal agencies.
