Multiple Car Burglaries Reported off Hieland Road
Sheriff’s Investigators are warning area residents to keep their vehicles locked and to ensure their valuables are out of plain view. The warning comes after a rash of recent car burglaries, predominately in the area off of Hieland Road in St. Anne. Detectives are actively investigating 8 burglaries that were reported within the last two days within a half mile of each other in a subdivision just south of IL Rt 17 off of Hieland Road (rural St. Anne).
“These burglaries are occurring during the over-night hours and most seem to be crimes-of-opportunity as the suspect(s) appear to be seeking unsecured car doors,” said Kankakee County Sheriff Mike Downey. “In at least one instance, the burglar(s) used a garage-door opener in an unlocked car to open the garage and remove valuables from inside the garage itself.”
Sheriff’s Investigators are urging area residents to keep an extra eye out and to report any suspicious behavior by calling 911. Anyone with information on any of the burglaries is encouraged to contact detectives at (815) 802-7150. Those wishing to remain anonymous can do so by contacting CrimeStoppers at (815) 93-CRIME (815-932-7463). Any information that leads to the identification, apprehension and/or conviction of those responsible may lead to a monetary reward.
