One in Custody After Dispute Ends in Shots Being Fired at Warehouse in Rural Manteno

Shortly before 1pm on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, deputies received a call of shots being fired in the parking lot at a warehouse distribution center (located in the 1100 block of Sycamore Rd, Manteno, IL).  Upon arrival to the facility, deputies, as well as officers from the Manteno Police Department and Grant Park Police Department, ascertained that no one was injured by gunfire and that the incident appears to have been a dispute among employees.

After speaking with multiple witnesses on scene, deputies took 28 year-old, Matthew C. Jones, of Matteson, IL, into custody.  Jones was transported to the Jerome Combs Detention Center where he was booked in for the Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Assault.  The firearm used in the incident was located and recovered on scene.

“It’s extremely unfortunate that these types of occurrences have become all too common in and around the workplace,” said Sheriff Mike Downey.  “I thank our deputies and neighboring agencies for assisting us and responding so quickly, which ultimately led to a peaceful resolution.”
