May 25, 2024 – Kankakee, IL – Sheriff’s deputies, along with officers from multiple neighboring agencies, responded to the area of 13100 E Central St in Pembroke Township last night at approximately 11:51 pm after several reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers located large groups of people that were present for two parties at a nearby banquet hall that were running simultaneously, many of whom were actively fleeing the scene.

Once on scene, officers located five victims who had sustained gunshot wounds, two of whom were later pronounced deceased (one on scene and one at a local hospital). The identities of those who succumbed to their injuries are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
