- Wood River Pipe Lines LLC (“Wood River”), an operating subsidiary of Buckeye Partners, L.P., is currently investigating a gasoline, diesel and/or gasoline/diesel mixture release in the vicinity of Wood River’s 163 pipeline and 162 pipeline located at State Route 113 and West Road 2750, approximately two miles north of Buckeye Terminals, LLC’s Kankakee, IL terminal.
- Wood River was notified of the release at approximately 12:00 AM local time on Friday, March 14, 2014 by the Limestone, IL Fire Department. Wood River Operations personnel were on site at 12:30 AM and confirmed a product release.
- The 163 pipeline transports gasoline and diesel fuel from East Chicago, IN to Kankakee, IL. The 162 pipeline transports gasoline, diesel fuel and a mix of gasoline and diesel from Wood River to East Chicago, IN.
- Both pipelines are currently shut down and will remain shut down until they are deemed safe to restart by company officials and regulatory authorities.
- Based on the initial site inspection, this release is being investigated as a possible third party damage incident.
- Crews are on site and have been working around the clock investigating and responding to the incident.
- The preliminarily estimate of the size of the release is 25 to 35 barrels (approximately 1,000 to 1,500 gallons).
- Wood River is currently conducting air monitoring in the vicinity of the incident, and we are not aware of any public safety risk.
- No injuries or fires have been reported, and Wood River’s Spill Management Team is coordinating with local fire and emergency response officials and relevant state and federal authorities.
- Wood River and its employees are an integral part of the local community in which we operate. Our primary concerns are ensuring the safety of local residents and responders as well as minimizing any impact to the environment. 5. Is there a risk of a fire or explosion at the release site?
Wood River’s Spill Management Team is coordinating with local fire and emergency response officials and relevant state and federal authorities to ensure public safety, including the prevention of fires. Work crews evaluating the pipeline are taking all steps to prevent the risk of a release or fire. No injuries or fires have been reported.

6. Are there health risks or concerns?
Wood River is currently conducting environmental testing – including core soil sampling, air quality testing, and well water monitoring – around the location of the release.
Regarding drinking water safety, for residents connected to the municipal water system, there is no impact to you and it is safe to use the water.
For residents in Hawkins Grove Subdivision who use well water, the Limestone Fire Department recommends that you drink bottled water until directed otherwise. Wood River is in the process of notifying affected residents and providing them safe drinking water. The Company is also conducting well testing in affected homes at no cost to residents. Residents will be informed of the results as soon as possible. Wood River has also delivered two cases of water and 12 one gallon jugs to those house-holds with water wells as of Friday evening, 3/14/14.
No injuries or fires have been reported, and Wood River’s Spill Management Team is coordinating with local fire and emergency response officials and relevant state and federal authorities. All test results to date indicate that there has been no impact to the air quality in the community around the location of the release, and we are not aware of any risk to public health or safety.

7. Have any residents been ordered to evacuate?
No, there have been no resident evacuations as a result of this evaluation. At this time, we are not aware of any risks to local residents or their property. We are committed to working closely with local, state and federal agencies to mitigate and minimize any impact to the local community and the environment.
8. Is it safe to drink or use the water in my home?
For residents connected to the municipal water system, there is no impact to you and it is safe to use the water.
For residents in the Hawkins Grove Subdivision who use well water, the Limestone Fire Department recommends that you drink bottled water until directed otherwise. 9. How will you clean up the release?
Wood River will conduct ongoing environmental remediation at the release site. Cleanup activities will include, but are not limited to: containment and recovery of product, removal of contaminated soil, restoration, and monitoring of air, soil and groundwater. These actions will continue until the effects of this release have been mitigated.
Wood River is committed to protecting the public and the environment and will work to remediate this release as quickly and effectively as possible.
