Sheriff’s Deputies Respond to Another Shooting in Rural Momence
October 25, 2014: Kankakee, IL – At approximately 12:34 am this morning, deputies responded to the Kavaliers Sports Bar (17969 E Rt. 114, Momence, IL) regarding a shooting that had just taken place. Upon arrival, responding deputies reportedly observed the victim, Tashon L. Jones, 24 years-of-age from Pembroke Township, on the ground just outside of the bar. Bar patrons were tending to Jones and performing CPR upon our officers’ arrival. Jones was later transported to Riverside Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Deputies were assisted by agents of the Major Crimes Task Force, the Kankakee Police Department, the Illinois State Police, the Momence Police Department, the St. Anne Police Department, and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office in Indiana as they continued to search for additional witnesses and/or suspects.
Several subjects who had fled the bar on foot prior to police arrival were located by Newton County Sheriff’s Deputies in Indiana. Other persons of interest were later located throughout Kankakee County.
This incident marks the second deadly shooting in eastern Kankakee County in the last ten days and is the fifth homicide of the year that the Sheriff’s Office has investigated.
Kankakee County Undersheriff Mike Downey advised, “We have not seen this many murders in Kankakee County’s jurisdiction since 1991 and we still have over two months to go until the end of the year.”
