St Anne High School Incident

On February 24, 2014 at approximately 12:15pm Kankakee County Deputies responded to a call of a student that displayed a gun inside of the St. Anne High School. Upon investigation it was determined that the student left the school grounds after displaying the firearm. Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office contacted the student’s mother at her residence in an attempt to locate the student, but were unsuccessful. A short time later police were notified that the student was being brought to the Sheriff’s Office by his mother. Eighteen year old Elijah Robinson was placed into custody and preliminarily charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon in a School and Disorderly Conduct. The incident continues to be investigated by the Saint Anne Police Department and the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office.

St. Anne school officials advised that no students were harmed and the building was secured once the student left the premises. Staff responded in a professional manner to ensure that no students were harmed. The District will continue to review all policies and procedures to ensure the best possible response. Students and parents have been notified regarding the incident. St. Anne High School continues to cooperate with the police during the ongoing investigation. The safety of the students is the top priority of the District according to St. Anne school officials.
