Subject Arrested in Connection with August Homicide in Pembroke Township

On Friday evening at approximately 8:16 PM, sheriff’s deputies, assisted by KAMEG Agents, arrested 24 year-old, Leontay R Hicks, of Pembroke Township, after conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle.  Hicks was taken into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant for the August 3rd murder of 21 year-old, Deric Wren III at the SS Friendly Mart (2727 S 13000E Rd., Pembroke Township, IL).

Hicks is currently incarcerated at the Jerome Combs Detention Center on a $2,000,000 bond warrant.  He awaits his initial court appearance in front of a Kankakee County Judge later this afternoon.

“In lieu of the recent string of shootings in the Pembroke Township area, I want to applaud the sheriff’s deputies, investigators and KAMEG agents who have worked feverishly, not only on locating Hicks, but also following up on the other investigations to remove these dangerous individuals from our streets,” said Sheriff Mike Downey.  “Furthermore, I want to thank the community for their cooperation during the investigation.  It demonstrates how quickly things can get resolved when area residents, witnesses and others with information work in conjunction with law enforcement to ensure safety in the community.”
